Evelina Carmen Sabatella has been carrying out research activities since 1998 in the field of socio-economic analysis of fisheries. Since 2002, she has been coordinating the implementation of the Italian Fishery Data Collection Plan Since March 2015, she has been acting as National Correspondent pursuant to Article 25.4 of Council Regulation n. 1380/15.
She has participated in numerous study and research projects financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies and the European Commission, a-also in the capacity as Scientific Director, such as: LANDMED (Implications of the Implementation of the Landing Obligations Provisions in Small Pelagic Fisheries in the Mediterranean); SEDAF (Improved knowledge of the main socio-economic aspects related to the most important fisheries in the Adriatic Sea); MANTIS, Marine protected areas: network(s) for enhancement of sustainable fisheries in EU Mediterranean waters; MINOUW, Science, Technology, and Society Initiative to minimize Unwanted Catches in European Fisheries; Cognitive Enquiry on discarding fish for demersal species in Italian seas; Strengthening regional cooperation in the area of fisheries data collection in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. She was advisor to the GFCM (General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean) in the context of the review of the information system for management. She is a full member of the Advisory Commission of the European Commission (CSTP/STECF). She chaired the workgroup of the European Commission responsible for the review and harmonization of economic data collection techniques (STECF/SGECA and PGECON). She chaired the EAFE (European Association of Fisheries Economists) from 2005 to 2009.
