Maria Cozzolino is an economist with experience in Aquaculture economics and management, analysis of seafood consumption and production markets. She is responsible for investigations on the social variables in the professional fisheries sector. She has been working for NISEA since 2013. She began in 1999 with ICRAM-Ispra Environment. Over the years her interest has been focused on the socio-economic analysis of aquaculture, market surveys, the development of systems for the valorization and certification of seafood processing, the advisability of valorizing fish waste from a circular economy standpoint. She has participated in numerous research and study activities funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies and by the European Commission, also in the capacity as Director. Major European studies and projects include MASMANAP (Methodology for Seafood Markets in the Aim of Introducing New Aquaculture Products), Definition of Data Collection Needs for Aquaculture, SEDAF, SUCCESS, MedAID (Mediterranean Aquaculture Integrated Development - H2020), Environmental Report for Aquaculture, the EMAS Registration project in aquaculture industries, “Integrated Strategy for the valorization of fishing with the “Menaide” driftnet in the Cilento area of Italy by developing a certification standard for sustainable fishing”.
She has been a member of the Information System for the Promotion of Aquaculture in the Mediterranean (SIPAM) and participates in STECF sub-groups. She is a researcher on surveys on social variables in fishing and she is involved in PGECON group. She has been an appraiser for the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) since 2015. She has cooperated with the EUROFISH network as an expert on aspects of valorization of aquaculture products. She participates in the Italian Aquaculture Platform - ITAQUA- established by the Ministry for Agriculture Food and Forestry Policies.
